Lucien's life is mostly consumed with art, whether it is collecting art by masters or researching art history from books on Cezanne, Bonnard, and Matisse. These great masters are, for Lucien, the most influential of all the modern masters.
Colour as light, and space as a main concern, the direction of Lucien's paintings is semi abstractive, with his drawings figurative. He extracts from nature the movement and rhythm rather than depicting the literal, therefore the journey is made possible by using colour, light and space to create his works.
Studying art and industrial design at a young age, Lucien became involved in car design with Ford motor company for a short term. Later moving to BHP Steelworks site at Port Kembla NSW to take on a role as an apprentice, Lucien found his passion for drawing and began creating illustrations for safety signage around the worksite.
Taking his new found interest in cartoon and cariactures to the next level, he became a freelance cartoonist for the Bulletin Magazine and eventually a member of the art department at the Fairfax media group, contributing political cartoons for the Sun Herald and the Financial Review. Many of Lucien's cartoons appeared on the Nine networks Sunday program, and he has also contributed works for book publications.
In 1992 Lucien won a cartoonist award from The Australian Black and White Artist club, which holds an annual awards night for its members working in the media.
After moving out of the media industry, Lucien found a desire to move into different mediums, and thus began his love affair with the paint brush.
Wanting to expand his skills further, Lucien began reading books on many of the great artists and decided he would undertake studies in Art. After 5years of study, Lucien obtained an Advanced Diploma in Art, and to this day continues further studies to expand on his already broad range of skills.
